Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction Surgery
Ultrasonic assisted liposuction surgery, which is often abbreviated as UAL, is a type of liposuction in which sound waves are used to break apart the fat cells allowing for easier removal of the fat. The surgery has been performed widely since 1989 and has become a popular method of receiving liposuction. There are two forms of UAL. One is performed internally in which a cannula is placed within an incision with ultrasound waves being administered to the fat cells. The second type of UAL is external UAL which consists of a paddle, which administers the sound waves, being placed against the outside of the skin.
Ultrasonic Assisted Lipo Basics
Similar to other liposuction procedures, a cannula is used during the surgery to remove the fat. However, in ultrasonic assisted liposuction, the cannula is used to administer ultrasound waves in order to emulsify the fats in the targeted area. Unlike other procedures in which the fat is liquefied manually, UAL liposuction solely attacks fat tissue meaning that there is typically less blood loss and tissue damage during the surgery. On a purely cosmetic level, the use of ultrasonic assisted liposuction as opposed to other forms typically results in a more successful surgery.
Liposuction Ultrasonic Assisted Procedure
Due to the limited amount of surrounding tissue damage, there is less likelihood of irregularities in the flesh leading to better contouring and shaping of the area of the body. Less tissue damage also allows for the removal of larger amounts of fat during a single procedure. This form of the surgery has also been proven to reduce the appearance of cellulite as well as cause less pain in the patient after the completion of the surgery. UAL can also be used to make the skin of the targeted area tauter as it promotes the ability of the skin to retract. It therefore reduces the appearance of baggy skin which would typically be seen after extensive weight loss.
General Anesthesia Usually Required
The surgery is typically conducted under general anesthesia although in some cases, local anesthesia is all that is required. Some side effects which have been reported are burning of the skin as well as extensive scarring due to the intense heat which is needed. Some doctors and patients, around the inception of the procedure, also reported tissue damage caused by over exposure to energy connected to the ultrasound.
However, new advances in technology have negated this problem by developing a cannula which distributes pulsed instead of steady sound waves. The typical ultrasonic assisted liposuction cost will range from a couple thousand dollars up to around $5000 – all of this depends though on the surgeon that you go to for the surgery. Make sure that you find a good, cheap liposuction surgeon that you can afford before you agree to get surgery!
