Neck Liposuction Surgery
Neck liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure because removing excess deposits of fat around the neck can improve an individual’s profile as well as make facial features more attractive. Neck liposuction surgery is targeted at eliminating unsightly double chins and jowls from the neck area and is often done in conjunction with a face or neck lift. The procedure can be done on an out-patient basis under general anesthesia or a local anesthesia combined with relaxation sedation and generally lasts about 60 minutes, although it can last longer if combined with other procedures. With that said, neck liposuction cost may be higher if more fat needs to be removed and if the estimated surgery time is longer than an hour.

Liposuction of the neck area
The first step in a neck liposuction procedure is a very small incision right behind the ears or under the chin to minimize scarring. This incision is the opening for an instrument called a cannula, which is inserted to vacuum out the fat deposits and sculpt the neck area to have an attractive contour that compliments the patient’s facial features. Some neck liposuction procedures utilize ultrasonic waves as a first step to liquefy the fat deposits prior to sucking them out using the cannula. This ultrasound method of neck liposuction is becoming more requested because it helps minimize bruising and blood loss during the surgery.
Assessing fat removal
Once the surgeon has removed the excess fat and sculpted the neck area to the desirable contour and shape discussed with the patient prior to surgery, the incision is sewn up and the neck and face bandaged to assist in the healing process. A compression bandage must be worn for up to three weeks following surgery to eliminate complications. Patients will need to have a friend or family member drive them home following surgery and it may take 5 to 7 days before the patient feels ready to get back to work or their regular daily routine.
After neck liposuction
Immediately following chin and neck liposuction procedures, the patient may need a prescription for painkillers from their physician to deal with such after effects as swelling, bruising, bleeding, numbness and a burning sensation in the neck region. Some patients also experience a sore neck following neck liposuction. It doesn’t matter whether you pay a lot more for a good surgeon or get a cheap liposuction surgeon, you will likely experience some minor pain after the surgery process.
Following up after surgery
Follow-up appointments following surgery are extremely important in order for the patient’s physician to monitor the healing process and ensure that infection, clotting or the build-up of fluid in the lungs has been avoided. Bruising and swelling is usually gone after about three weeks following surgery, but any excess or sagging skin that develops following the fat removal will have to be dealt with in a separate surgical procedure. As with any surgical procedure, following doctor’s orders regarding medication, diet and bandaging is vital to a successful recovery.
